Type Design
A dysfunctional display typeface.
Graffiti was my personal gateway into creativity, so when I was challenged with building a typeface, that influence leaked into my aesthetic whether I wanted it to or not. Designing a cohesive alphabet ended up being a lot more difficult than expected, but the real obstacle wasn't designing the letters, it was figuring out what the font was actually about. I figured it out as I went.
I created a 16-page type specimen book that documents the process, including my struggle with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. After spending countless hours in Illustrator, my eyes burned from the screen and I wanted to see the letters exist physically. So I spray-painted them large-scale on a 4x4 ft canvas. I also made a few short animations and turned the typeface into a functional font file.
